Oyster Herpes Virus Detection kit
Introduction
Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) is an important viral pathogen that can infect a variety of bivalve mollusks and poses a particularly serious threat to Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas / Magallana gigas) aquaculture. Over the past two decades, OsHV-1 has become one of the major causes of mass mortality events in Pacific oysters worldwide. It can cause severe infections in larvae, juveniles, and adult oysters, leading to significant economic losses in oyster farms.
OsHV-1-associated disease spreads rapidly and often occurs under conditions such as high-density farming, poor management, and elevated summer temperatures. Infected oysters may show signs such as cessation of feeding and swimming, pale digestive glands, abnormal extension or detachment of the velum, and, in severe cases, high mortality within a short period. Factors such as ocean warming and high-density aquaculture may also increase the risk of viral prevalence and outbreaks.
