Introduction

Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) is a highly contagious viral pathogen that mainly infects koi and common carp, causing acute and outbreak-type disease. The occurrence of the disease is closely related to water temperature, with clinical signs typically appearing at 18–29°C. After the virus enters an aquaculture system, it can spread rapidly within 1–2 weeks, with morbidity and mortality rates reaching up to 100%. The incubation period may range from several weeks to several months, depending on factors such as water temperature, stress level, fish health status, and farming conditions. Fish of all ages are susceptible to infection, and outbreaks can cause severe economic losses in koi and carp aquaculture.
