Copper Staining Solution (Rubeanic Acid Method)
Introduction
Wilson's disease, also known as hepatolenticular degeneration, is an autosomal recessive disorder of copper metabolism. Because the histological changes in the liver are relatively nonspecific, copper staining of liver tissue is important for the differential diagnosis and identification of Wilson’s disease. Copper and certain other metals can form chelates with rubeanic acid. The addition of sodium acetate blocks the binding of rubeanic acid to metals other than copper.
